CINCINNATI (WCCO-TV) - A Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty today to charges of illegally selling and marketing counterfeit versions of the anti-impotence drug Viagra.
The Food and Drug Administration said on Friday that a Pennsylvania man was sentenced to 20 months of unpaid probation and a fine of $5 million.
The FDA said in a release that the defendant sold a counterfeit version of the drug to customers, and the company received a $1,000 fine.
The FDA also said in a release that the drug maker offered to pay for a counterfeit version of the drug if it was not covered by insurance.
A criminal complaint against Cincinetown Corp. said the seller falsely represented the drug was counterfeit and said the pills were made in China.
Cincinetown was also accused of illegally selling the drug online.
A search warrant at Cincinetown was executed in July 2016.
